Everything you need to plan a 3-tier tiered cinema room: exact riser heights, sightline calculations, minimum room depths, construction checklist, and room-by-room pricing. No other guide in India covers this.
For every row to see over the row in front without obstruction, the seated eye level of the rear viewer must be higher than the headrest of the viewer in front. A clearance of 13 inches is the practical minimum — enough to see the bottom 10% of a cinema screen even when the person in front leans forward slightly.
How sightlines are calculated: Every reclined viewer has an eye level of 42 inches from the floor. Back of head (headrest top) is 44 inches. Row 2 viewer on a 15 inch riser has eye level of 42+15 = 57 inches — which is 57−44 = 13 inches above Row 1’s headrest. Row 3 viewer on a 30 inch riser has eye level 42+30 = 72 inches — which is 72−59 = 13 inches above Row 2’s headrest (44+15 = 59). Both gaps are identical. This is not coincidental: the riser heights are designed to produce equal 13-inch clearance at each level.
Two types of 3-row configuration exist. The difference is row depth — 3 ft (partial recline) vs 4 ft (full recline). Both types use 15 inch and 30 inch risers.

A 3-row setup requires two riser platforms — one at 15 inches and one at 30 inches. Both are constructed from the same materials. The 30 inch riser is more structurally demanding and requires proper internal bracing.
⚠ 3-row risers for full recliners support significant dynamic load — a fully reclined viewer can exert 120-150 kg on the rear feet. All riser construction must use minimum 50×50mm steel square tube framing with cross-bracing for the 30-inch platform, regardless of whether the surface finish is wood or marble.
💡 Budget for dual riser construction: ₹60,000–1,20,000 depending on city, finish material, and contractor. Steel-frame with vitrified tile finish is the most durable. Avoid pure wood construction for the 30 inch riser. We can recommend trusted riser contractors in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bangalore.
The minimum room depth is 16.5 ft for compact 3-row seating (3 ft rows, 2 ft risers) or 20.5 ft for standard 3-row (4 ft rows, 2.5 ft risers). The minimum room width depends on how many seats per row — 5 seats require 14.5 ft width (13.5 inch clearance per side with standard 24 inch seat). The smallest practical 3-row room is 16×20 ft, giving 15 seats across 3 rows.
Row 2 uses a 15 inch riser and Row 3 uses a 30 inch riser. At these heights, both rows achieve exactly 13 inches of sightline clearance above the row in front. Row 2 seated eye level is 42+15 = 57 inches, which is 13 inches above Row 1 headrest at 44 inches. Row 3 seated eye level is 42+30 = 72 inches, 13 inches above Row 2 headrest at 59 inches (44+15).
Yes, when risers are built to the correct heights. 13 inches of sightline clearance means each rear viewer can see everything above 3 inches from the bottom of the screen without obstruction. In practice, the entire screen is visible from all 3 rows. The only exception is if someone in the front row leans forward significantly — but recliner postures lean back, not forward, making this a non-issue.
A 15-seat 3-row installation (16×20 room) with single motor standard material starts at ₹4,50,000 including dual riser. An 18-seat setup (18×22 room) starts at ₹6,35,000. A 21-seat farmhouse installation (20×25 room) starts at ₹7,30,000. These are recliner + riser costs only, excluding projector, screen, audio, and room treatment.
